Jointly owned by Roger Hatrick-Smith and Randolph van der Burgh, VCFO Group will provide a full suite of advisory and outsourcing services for our clients – from essential bookkeeping assistance through to accounting, tax compliance, tax structuring, private client services, capital raising, M&A support, turnaround services, fund administration services, and business growth advisory services.
The merger is being effected by way of a legal amalgamation under the Companies Act which will take approximately one month. We will remain initially in our current locations and all contact details will remain unchanged. We expect to be co-located at Roger’s offices in Parnell within the next few weeks.

Roger is a Chartered Accountant although for most of his career he has been advising businesses and owners on how to solve problems, beat the odds and get ahead. When working with clients his primary focus is you the owner and what you can and could achieve with your business. Often it’s your main investment so he encourages his clients to think about how to build value, how to get it right and the right time to look to exit. Roger owns a start-up company himself and has investments in more established businesses so he knows what it’s like. Roger has assisted businesses across most industry sectors from retail, manufacturing, services, real-estate as well as many start-up companies across IT, Biotech and primary resources sectors. Prior to founding VCFO Group Roger was a partner in Ernst & Young in charge of the Entrepreneurial Services and Transaction Advisory service lines.
Randolph van der Burgh
Randolph’s global experience in financial services, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, group restructuring and international tax planning spans 25 years. Before merging his business into VCFO Group, he was an international tax partner at Ernst &Young advising clients in sectors ranging from financial services, investment banking, private equity, wealth management, insurance, property, mining, dairy, forestry, FMCG, IT, retail, to entertainment. He sits on the board of several private investment groups and is a private venture capital investor. Randolph is a member of the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand and holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (First Class Honours) degree from Victoria University, Wellington.
Adam is our client services management and looks after the compliance accounting and tax team at VCFO Group. Adam’s team undertakes regular accounting tasks for our clients as well as year end accounting and tax compliance work.
Diana is a Chartered Accountant with considerable experience in advising a broad range of businesses from primary industries to manufacturing, construction, education, hospitality, entertainment and retail. She has first-hand business experience having successfully operated her own business so she understands the challenges faced in today’s business world. Diana passionately believes that people and relationships are the key to business success. Whether the business provides a product or a service, building the relationship between owners, their team, customers and suppliers is essential to improving profits and growth. She works alongside owners to grow their business profits and value. Just as importantly she assists the businesses to be less dependent on the owners by improving processes and internal systems. This in turn facilitates an exit plan and frees time for them to pursue personal and lifestyle goals.
Frank has over 20 years’ management experience overseas and in New Zealand, working in a variety of industries ranging from semiconductor to telecommunications. Frank is a senior member of the team and works with a number of our clients in a financial controller capacity, overseeing their accounting functions and providing advice and guidance. His biggest strength is the empathy he has for his clients and his peers. Frank has helped countless Kiwi business owners grow in industries not limited to high tech start-ups, bioscience, manufacturing, construction and retail. After hours, Frank enjoys a competitive game of badminton and travelling with his family.
Heidi has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Auckland and is currently enrolled in the Chartered Accountants Program. She is a valued member of the Funds Administration team and is looking to expand her horizons by assisting the Management Accounting team.
James is a senior member of our management accounting team and works with a number of clients providing advice & guidance to grow their businesses. These services include management reporting, budget analysis, cash flows & forecasting.
Being an avid technophile James is our resident Xero guru and popular with clients for support & training. He believes technology isn’t just software & hardware but the techniques & processes we use to become more efficient. He employs this methodology in identifying problems & providing bespoke solutions.
James is currently a provisional Chartered Accountant and outside of business his passions include badminton & motorcycling.
Juliet is a Chartered Accountant with over 25 years’ experience in business services, project management and managing finances for HNW individuals. She has worked in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, including management positions on a £2bn London Underground project and with a New South Wales retail chain. Juliet specialises in private client services and fund accounting. She is a member of the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand and holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration degree from Victoria University, Wellington.
Kim is our practice manager and key point of contact for many of our clients. Kim is responsible for all client communications, making sure we deliver on our promise to our clients and the efficient running of the office.
Lu holds a post-graduate degree in accounting and made her move from the mighty Waikato in search of a more challenging and varied role. She is a valued member of our Compliance team, enjoys working with our wide range of clients and is focused on continued learning. When she’s not in front of her desk, you can find her behind a microphone singing along to her favourite tunes.
May Lee joined us as a graduate from AUT Business School. She brings a wealth of overseas experience to the team. Her previous roles include auditor and advisor, as well as finance manager in IT and manufacturing companies. Out of the office, May enjoys hiking, swimming and badminton.
Melissa Du joined us as a graduate from Auckland University Business School. She is a valued member of our Change Accounting team, enjoys helping a wide range of clients and is studying for her Chartered Accountants Program. Out of the office, Melissa enjoys swimming and cooking.
CPA Qualified, Oliver has a highly diverse and unique skill set. In the last 7 years he has worked in fast growing businesses. As a previous CFO, he was responsible for controlling the financial stability and growth of the business and managing supply chain, finance and HR, Advocacy, marketing and Australian Operation. In addition he has expertise in negotiating, creating and managing supply contracts for a range of entities. Oliver’s key strengths are people engagement, driving business improvement and efficiency as well as drilling down into the numbers, financial modelling, business turnaround strategies, and post-acquisition integration.
With a strong administrative background, Sheetal handles client queries confidently and assists the Management Accounting team with preparation of financial reports. Sheetal’s ability to work well under pressure, eye for detail and love of taking on new challenges makes her an invaluable team member. An avid netballer, Sheetal can be found on the courts with her daughter come rain or shine.
Tri is our financial accountant. He recently made the move from the Waikato to Auckland in search for a more challenging and varied role. Tri relishes helping our clients grow by delivering financial accounting insights and advice and assisting them with tracking their success. When Tri is not in the office, you can find him playing football in the Auckland Domain. Tri is a provisional member of CAANZ.
Yunyi has over 12 years’ financial management experience with investment management and financial services groups both in Auckland and Hong Kong. He has experience in financial statement and tax preparation, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, business planning, financial governance, accounting advisory, risk management and investor reporting and communications. Yunyi has held senior financial management roles in both NZX and ASX listed infrastructure and property groups with operations throughout Asia including China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand. Yunyi is a member of the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand and holds a Master of Commerce in Finance (with First Class Honours) from the University of Auckland.
