Andy Archer

Director

Andy is a vastly experienced, pragmatic taxation expert who deals with busy people to solve their personal and corporate taxation issues, and to identify and capture opportunities. This includes domestic, outbound and inbound businesses, with a specialty in trans-Tasman ventures. Matching this, Andy brings his strong personal and business acumen to provide commercially aligned outcomes, with an emphasis on how to create and build value for owners. Prior to joining VCFO Group, Andy was a senior partner at Ernst & Young with leadership roles in international tax and managing key accounts. His client serving experience has been within financial services, investment banks, private equity, property, utilities, primary resources, and privately owned businesses in diverse fields. Andy also has a long track record in leadership and advising within the Not-for-Profit sector, more recently with NZ National Parks & Conservation Foundation, and Diabetes New Zealand Inc. Andy is a member of CAANZ, Impact Investing, and International Fiscal Association, and holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree and Diploma in Accounting from VUW.

Roger is a Chartered Accountant although for most of his career he has been advising businesses and owners on how to solve problems, beat the odds and get ahead. When working with clients his primary focus is you the owner and what you can and could achieve with your business. Often it’s your main investment so he encourages his clients to think about how to build value, how to get it right and the right time to look to exit. Roger owns a start-up company himself and has investments in more established businesses so he knows what it’s like. Roger has assisted businesses across most industry sectors from retail, manufacturing, services, real-estate as well as many start-up companies across IT, Biotech and primary resources sectors. Prior to founding VCFO Group Roger was a partner in Ernst & Young in charge of the Entrepreneurial Services and Transaction Advisory service lines.

Randolph van der Burgh

Randolph’s global experience in financial services, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, group restructuring and international tax planning spans 30 years. Before merging his business into VCFO Group, he was an international tax partner at Ernst &Young advising clients in sectors ranging from financial services, investment banking, private equity, wealth management, insurance, property, mining, dairy, forestry, FMCG, IT, retail, to entertainment. He sits on the board of several private investment groups and is a private venture capital investor. Randolph is a member of the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand and holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (First Class Honours) degree from Victoria University, Wellington.

Claire Dilks

Director, Tax

Claire started her tax career in the UK and since migrating to NZ has enjoyed over 20 years corporate tax experience, including a 2-year secondment to Australia. Prior to joining VCFO, Claire worked at EY and Baker Tilly Staples Rodway.  She is a highly regarded tax practitioner whose clients respect and trust her for the way she understands their commercial constraints, working closely with them to find workable tax pathways and solutions. Claire has a particular knack and interest in communicating complex tax concepts to her clients in a readily accessible way. Claire is experienced across a wide range of business sectors including retirement, aged care, film, property, banking, finance and charities.  Claire’s specialties include the commercial tax management of financial arrangements, land transactions, GST, charity tax and compliance, international tax, M&A, structure consulting, tax effect accounting, IRD liaison and dispute management. Claire is a CPA member; she holds a Bachelor of Law (LLB Hons) and Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies from Birmingham City University. Phil Gore

Phil has worked almost exclusively in the screen industry since 2002, and in this time has built up a wealth of knowledge, networks and experience in advising numerous international and domestic productions.  This includes 8 years working as a freelance production accountant in both Australia and New Zealand, before specialising in screen and entertainment industry advisory work with the chartered accountancy firm, Pieter Holl & Associates, and now with VCFO Group, since 2019. His production accounting experience combined with his extensive chartered accountancy career means Phil is uniquely positioned to advise clients on their incentive, accounting, tax and other requirements over the life-cycle of their productions.  He has a particular interest in the NZ screen incentive, the NZ Screen Production Grant, and has a close working relationship with the NZ Film Commission through project-managing and vetting numerous grant applications. Phil is passionate about the industry and is currently a Board member (and Treasurer) of the Directors and Editors Guild of Aotearoa New Zealand and the Screen Music and Sound Guild of New Zealand, and he has also presented at various industry courses for producers and production accountants.  Phil is a member of Chartered Accountants of Australia & New Zealand and has separately been a chartered accountant/advisor to a portfolio of entrepreneurial clients and their businesses.

Diana is a Chartered Accountant with considerable experience from grass-root businesses to larger companies, from primary industries to manufacturing, construction, education, hospitality, entertainment to retail. Having successfully operated her own business Diana has a first-hand understanding of the challenges faced by owners and their businesses. Diana works closely with business owners to support and help them identify, plan and achieve both of their business and personal goals. People and relationships are the key to business success for Diana, and she believes that strong relationships between owners, their team, customers and suppliers is essential to improving profits and growth. Just as importantly she assists the businesses to be less dependent on the owners by improving processes and internal systems. This in turn creates the vehicle for the ultimate exit plan and also frees up owners time allowing them to pursue personal and lifestyle goals.

Adam leads the Financial Accounting team at VCFO that delivers compliance accounting, tax and secretarial services across an extensive portfolio of businesses.  His team undertakes regular accounting tasks for the clients as well as year-end financial statements, tax and corporate compliance work and work closely together with VCFO tax team to devise different ways and better outcomes for businesses and business owners.  Adam’s pragmatic approach and his reliability always gives the clients a sense of assurance and peace of mind that the business accounting compliance and tax obligation are met. You will also benefit from Adam’s very considerable experience dealing with and helping all manner of investors, business variations and sell downs.  His exceptional interpersonal skills have enable him to integrate with clients and develop valuable relationships over time. Prior to joining VCFO, Adam worked as an auditor both in New Zealand and overseas.  Adam is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and holds a Bachelor of Business from the University of Technology, Sydney.
